Vermilion Flycatcher (Leucistic)

Submitted by: Kimberly Chadwick

This leucistic Vermilion flycatcher was a huge attraction this time last year here in Tucson, Arizona. Normally a scarlet red (males), you can imagine how lovely it was to see such a rarity!

Leucism is a condition characterized by reduced pigmentation in animals and humans. Unlike albinism, it is caused by a reduction in all types of skin pigment, not just melanin.
